From shrimp to golf courses, here’s a look at why you should plan to join the fun next year in Amelia Island.

Experience Amelia Island’s Annual Shrimp Festival

Held the first weekend in May, the Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival is always a big hit with locals – and visitors too. There’s no shortage of shrimp throughout the festival and plenty of family fun too. Don’t miss the festive Shrimp Festival parade and the daily Invasion of the Pirates; there’s even a pirate costume contest. The Blessing of the Fleet features the area’s shrimp boats receiving blessings for the year.

For shrimp lovers, be prepared to eat! Enjoy locally-caught and served shrimp with numerous preparations and enjoy plenty of seafood dishes too. This festival brings together shrimp lovers and the best in the arts, crafts, antiques and plenty of family fun too.

Where to Play Golf in Amelia Island

While you are in the area, play the Omni Amelia Island Plantation – Ocean Links course where five of the holes overlook the ocean. You can enjoy the late afternoon sea breeze as you make your way through the course.

Designed by Arnold Palmer, the par 72 Golf Club at North Hampton is one of the area’s newest courses. With wild grasses and elevation changes of over 40 feet, this course is a challenge for even the most skilled golfers.

Where to Stay in Amelia Island

The Hampton Inn & Suites, Amelia Island Historic Harbor Front puts you in the center of the historic district with local boutiques and restaurants within walking distance. During the shrimp festival, this location is in the middle of the festivities.

With just a short walk to the ocean, the Residence Inn Amelia Island offers bike rentals and free access to their island shuttle offering transportation to the area attractions.

Looking for an oceanfront view? Book your stay at the luxurious Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island or the Omni Amelia Island Plantation with 1,350 acres of beaches and marshways.
